Hall Road East Project in association with MACA and MRPV

The Brief

SkyBox can automatically start and stop the generator during specific time windows to top up the batteries, keeping your sites supplied with power for a fraction of the cost of continually running a generator or bringing in a mains power supply.

The Challenge

The intention to relocate the site offices for a different project meant that our engineers had to come up with a creative design for solar installation to ensure that the solar panels remained intact on the roof while relocating along with the off-grid battery storage system.

The Solution

SkyBox is a fully off-grid certified plug- and-play battery storage system. All of the components required to run a property completely off the grid are securely pre-configured within an
IP54 weather-rated cabinet. SkyBox can connect multiple sources of power including solar, wind, hydro and generator. SkyBox is easily scalable in its battery capacity giving SkyBox owners the flexibility to meet higher energy needs in future. With an inlet to connect a generator on the side of the cabinet, the influence of bad weather is negated. This flexibility allowed Sky Energy to come up with a suitable off-grid solution for their site compound.

The achievement.

We installed a 16.2kwh of solar and a SkyBox with a 27kwh battery capacity to meet their energy demand. This equates to 360 kWh of renewable energy use each week. We also included a 24kva backup generator to allow for adverse weather conditions and high power spikes.
With this solution, MACA was able to achieve the prized tag of being one of the industry leaders in the sustainable energy sector. The system is now servicing up to 100 people at the site compound’s peak operation. On a similar project, MACA would run a generator 24 x 7. With the SkyBox, MACA has reduced generator usage to only 15%. This equates to fuel savings of over 24000 litres over 12 months and 18.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission savings over the life of the project, thereby reducing the impact on the environment significantly with pure clean energy.
